My name is Henry Ferrarin. I am a youth basketball coach and a 3-time competitor on NBC's hit TV show American Ninja Warrior. In 2012, my mother was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. I still vividly remember the phone call I received from my father when I heard this diagnosis. We both cried. As a youth basketball coach, I am so used to being able to control situations and problem solve on the spot. For the first time in my life I felt totally powerless. I had nothing left to do but hope. My mother immediately underwent a double mastectomy, followed by chemotherapy. The cancer was aggressive, but doctors caught it early enough to where this immediate treatment may have saved her life. Thanks to early detection, she is now cancer-free. My mother is the strongest person I know, and her perseverance through this has inspired me to try out for American Ninja Warrior.
